Top Shows to Binge on Netflix

Schitt's Creek
Rotten Tomatoes: 92%

This feel good comedy show has five hilarious seasons on Netflix with the final six one coming this October. The show centers around the very rich Rose family and their experience after they lose all their money and are forced to move to a small town they bought (as a joke) called Schitt's Creek. This show is wonderfully written and very comedic that makes it a good show to binge watch when stressed or just wanting to relax. The characters are all so funny and great and each season just gets better and better, making it the ultimate bingeworthy show to watch this summer.

Dead to Me
Rotten Tomatoes: 91%

The second season of this dark comedy just premiered on Netflix and has gotten even better reviews than the first one. The show centers around a unique yet powerful friendship between a woman who's husband recently died and another woman who although is hiding something is very kind and helps the friendship grow. This show also has the comedic aspect to it as well as a captivating storyline that makes it another great show to binge through (it's only 2 seasons) this summer quickly.

Hollywood
Rotten Tomatoes: 57%

Another Netflix original that just premiered in May is this show. The show centers around a group of people attempting to make a very groundbreaking movie that defies the norms of Hollywood in an attempt to add the diversity aspect to Hollywood that was greatly lacking at this time (but none of the events actually happened and is not a true story). This limited series is very unique and has a specific style to it that some might enjoy and others might not, but either way the storyline is very fitting for the current time and is created very good so each episode will captivate you more and almost force you to watch the next one. This show is probably not for the whole family to watch together, but is still a short show you can binge through in probably less than a week and experience a joyful alternate reality for Hollywood's diversity and how it could have changed in the time period (even though it never did).

Love is Blind
Rotten Tomatoes: 73%

This reality show is very entertaining and sort of takes The Bachelor and spins off on the idea in an experiment type idea about if love is truly blind. The show focuses on characters who can only talk to one another in the "pod" and can't see each other until they both choose to leave together and feel like they know each other well enough. After they leave, the show focuses on their struggles in their relationships in a reality-show type way that all leads to their dramatic weddings and if they will actually be married or if someone will change their mind. The show is very entertaining and a nice show to relax yourself with this summer that I would recommend to watch if you are craving more reality shows.

I Am Not Okay With This
Rotten Tomatoes: 86%

This Netflix original is very unique and unlike anything else you would see on TV despite it's similar structure to Stranger Things (it's also by the same producers). The show is about Sydney and her struggles navigating through her teenage years including her changing friends, family and sexuality that all make life difficult for her. There are some other twists and turns that occur starting in the first episode but the show is a great coming-of age and sci-fi show combined that is great for any teenager to binge watch this summer. It's also very quick and could easily be finished in one day.

Outer Banks
Rotten Tomatoes: 70%

This fairly new but very interesting Netflix show has gained in popularity and surprised many people who have watched it with its storyline and characters. The show is mainly about a teenager who wants his friends to help him find some mystical treasure that all connects to his family and other issues on a strange island. The show has not been out of Netflix's top 10 and the show is a great and bingeworthy show for teenagers and adults in the summer.

Stranger Things
Rotten Tomatoes: 93%

Who hasn't at least heard of Stranger Things at this time? If you haven't watched it (or weirdly never heard of the phenomenon), now's the perfect time to binge through this sci-fi show that bends a variety of genres into a spectacular show. The first season centers around the disappearance of Will Byers in a small town in Indiana and unravels a completely insane plot of monsters and dimensions that most teenagers would find appealing and entertaining. Add in a slight bit of horror into the mix and 80s nostalgia and you have Stranger Things. The second and third season are also great and streaming on Netflix. Each season is only 8-9 episodes, so it's also a fairly quick and unique but fantastic show to binge through over this summer and did I mention the show has won Emmys as well.

The Crown
Rotten Tomatoes: 89%

The Crown has been successful with both critics and audiences even since the first season aired and it earned three golden globe awards. The show is about Queen Elizabeth and her journey taking over the English crown, dealing with her marriage and kids as well as the struggles of leadership. This show is a bit more serious than others, but is a wonderfully created show that combines the informative facts (sometimes true but not always) with an entertaining story as well as stellar acting from the ensemble cast. Even if you're not a fan of these types of shows, do yourself a favor and watch the first couple episodes because this show is amazing and one of the best on Netflix. Like Stranger Things, three seasons are on Netflix (the third with an almost entirely new cast to represent the aging), therefore this is another great, Emmy winner bingeworthy show to watch.

Never Have I Ever
Rotten Tomatoes: 96%

Never Have I Ever is a new Netflix original created by Mindy Kaling and heavily based on her own experiences. The show is about Devi, an Indian girl and her struggle to become popular in high school (after some major events occurred that changed her) and build a new reputation in her sophomore year like many teenagers face in high school. This show is relatable to any teenager and is a great coming-of age comedy-drama to watch and connect to. In addition, the acting is amazing (despite some of them being way too old to play a teenager) and helps the intriguing storyline develop and reveal the struggles many teenagers face throughout high schools and shows them guidance throughout it. It also helps that the show is super entertaining and each episode is short enough that you could finish the entire show in one sitting (and most people have because believe me each episode will make you want to), therefore this is another perfect show to binge over the summer.

The Politician
Rotten Tomatoes: 57%

While I have not officially watched The Politician, it is on my list of shows and I have heard nothing but great things about the show and the cast. This was a hit for Netflix when it was released and was also critically acclaimed including some of the cast. The show is about a student who wants to be president of the US, but as he is currently in high school, he'll have to learn how to navigate through it and play politics if he wants to be president of the student body (and eventually get to Harvard). The show is a great comedy and sort of satirical show that is an interesting take on how to be a politician. Again, I have not seen the show, but I know I will be binging it over the summer and I recommend anyone else to as well.

Black Mirror
Rotten Tomatoes: 83%

Black Mirror was another hit for Netflix and has continued to be with each season launched. Each episode in this dark anthology series focuses on a different storyline, most of which involve technology destroying or changing our future in some way. This show is very intense and dark, but the writing is so clever and all the episodes are so wonderfully crafted and pass on a major message to society about our reliance on technology and how it could be our downfall. It sounds dark, but it also is entertaining especially with the changing cast and story for each episode (almost like each episode is a mini-movie), so you can really start watching this series from anywhere as each episode is unique (I would recommend San Junipero, Nosedive and USS Callister), but it's also a great series to binge from start to finish. There are five seasons, but the first and fifth season only have three episodes, so it won't take that long. Also, the interactive spin off, Bandersnatch is another great and fun Black Mirror experience that I would recommend. But, you should definitely add this Emmy winning show to your summer watch list as it is fantastic.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit (And Interactive)
Rotten Tomatoes: 95%

This show isn't for everyone as it spins off of the classic childhood shows and makes comedy off of a very dark subject. Kimmy Schmidt was kidnapped by a doomsday cult leader and kept in a bunker for most of her life (when she was 15) and after finally being rescued, she must adapt to living in Indiana and the new world that has changed since she was a kid. It sounds dark, but this show is almost pure comedy and will make anyone feel good and inspired. There are only four seasons and each is unique and lays a "fascinating transition" (fans will get that) on any comedy or drama show that audiences will love, enjoy and feel good while watching. If you might have heard about this show recently it is most likely because the interactive special based on the show launched. While I didn't necessarily enjoy the interactive special as much as I thought I would, it is a great, mostly family-friendly experience that fans of the show and audiences will enjoy going through (plus it has Harry Potter!). Do yourself a favor and have fun while watching this wonderful comedy show and it's interactive special that will cheer you up and make your day a thousand times better.

Anne with an E
Rotten Tomatoes: 60%

Anne with an E is another show I have not seen, but have heard from friends about how impactful and spectacular the storyline and characters are. The show is about Anne, a 13 year old orphan girl who ends up living with her older sibling on a new island. This Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) is streaming on Netflix and is an excellent coming-of age drama that from what I have heard is entertaining and provides powerful messages and a wonderfully written storyline that can be relatable. I will be binging this very soon (and probably doing a review), there are three seasons on Netflix and I would recommend this as another summer binge.

Sex Education
Rotten Tomatoes: 94%

Sex Education is another unique coming-of age drama/comedy that defies the rules of most genres and recreates them to match it's strange but wonderful storyline and characters The show is about Otis and his attempt to also improve his reputation in school, however the next part gets a little weird. He lives with a sex therapist and has definitely had much exposure to the ideas and has a perfect place to ask any questions a normal teenager might have, therefore using this knowledge, to improve his reputation, he creates a underground sex therapy clinic in his school to help his classmates. This show might not be the perfect family-binging show but is a great coming of age story for teenagers to binge quickly this summer. The show has two seasons on Netflix with more episodes coming later next year.

The Good Place
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

"What the fork," The Good Place is that good. (Again, fans will understand). This show is seriously great and although it is over now, it doesn't stop you from experiencing this unique and quite possibly one of the most entertaining comedy shows of the decade as the seasons are on Netflix. If you haven't watched this show, do yourself a favor and binge-watch the stellar show over the summer. The show is about Eleanor after she dies and goes to the good place (after death there is a good and bad place), however she believes she was misplaced and belongs in the bad place and attempts to become a better person to stay in there. This storyline doesn't describe the other seasons even closely, but I don't want to spoil the story. The twists and turns (especially of the first season) make this show extremely spectacular and one of those feel good, but entertaining comedy shows to watch as a family or even watch by yourself. Please watch this show if you haven't already over the summer.

Riverdale
Rotten Tomatoes: 86%

This CW show takes the classic Archie comics and places a dark twist on all their stories into a perfectly entertaining teenage drama that has become very popular now. The show centers around Archie and other high schoolers in Riverdale after one of their classmates is murdered and although the story drifts away from that greatly in later scenes, the character development is fantastic throughout the series and is probably the one thing that continues especially with the introduction of new characters. All of the current seasons are now streaming on Netflix and although the show might not suit everyone (I'm not a big fan), it's a great show to binge over the summer as it is very captivating and hard to start watching when started.l

Jane the Virgin
Rotten Tomatoes: 100%

Although this show ended last year, all seasons are streaming on Netflix and have shockingly increased in viewership despite the show's ending. Jane the Virgin centers around its main character Jain after she was accidentally artificially inseminated that turns into a classic twist on the telenovela genre. The show really finds it beat after season 1 and becomes much more entertaining with shocking twists and turns that happen in each season and completely change the tone of the season or sometimes the next season. The acting is great in the show as well as the unique writing while the series is very cultural and introduces a new genre that is very captivating and entertaining, almost forcing you to watch the next one. I would definitely recommend binging through this series especially if you're looking for something new and different than other shows.

Russian Doll
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

This show is another Netflix original hit that is a very strange and unique dark comedy that is very enjoyable yet also hard to watch at the same time. The main plot is about Nadia as she dies on her birthday and wakes up to the exact same point and re-lives the night over and over again until she dies again, however throughout the show it gets more complicated. . This may sound strange, but it is written in such a great and clear way that the story entertains you and will make you binge through the episodes quickly. The acting in this show (especially by Natasha Lyonne) is stellar and really expresses the character while the strange formula of the show matches with the tone and everything sort of just fits into place especially in the last episode. Season 2 is planned to arrive, but you can stream all of season 1 on Netflix and if you are looking for a bingeworthy show, this show may seem strange, but if you take a chance on it, I promise you that you'll love it.

The Haunting of Hill House
Rotten Tomatoes: 93%

This horror show is also another Netflix original that is strange and different than other shows as well. This show is also probably not for anyone who doesn't like scary things because believe me this show can get quite spooky and at times disturbing. But, the storyline is written well and the cast is fantastic that creates an amazing adventure and mystery for the audiences to go on. The Haunting of Hill House is about a family that was forced to move into a strange house (very creepy house also) where strange things began to happen. It may sound like the normal horror movie story, but as new details make the story twist and turn in unexpected ways, the story drifts from those classical ideas into a more modern haunted house story. It also helps the mystery that the story jumps from the past and the future, making the audiences even more confused yet excited for what's to come. Again, the show can get quite scary so probably not a family show, but it is a great show to binge over the summer that will not leave you disappointed.

The Circle
Rotten Tomatoes: N/A

More reality shows, who doesn't love them? But seriously, for me, The Circle was one of my favorite reality shows I have seen as the people are so entertaining and likable  that you almost forget about the competition but are just so interested in their conversations and interactions. If you're confused, The Circle is a "social media competition" reality show which means a group of people are each in a separate room where they can't see anyone else and have a screen called the circle where they can chat with the other people, however no one gets to see anyone else so people are allowed to catfish. The purpose is because other players rank you based on their interactions and what they know about you and the person who has the lowest ranking gets a disadvantage and the possibility of being "blocked" or leaving, so the person at the end that stays and is ranked the highest wins money. This show is really not as confusing as I'm describing it, but is a really fun (possibly family-friendly) show to binge in a week (as it's so entertaining and hard to stop watching) that will leave you so happy and thrilled. There's even two spin-offs called The Circle Brazil and The Circle France if you enjoy the show that much.

You
Rotten Tomatoes: 90%

Here's another show I have not seen, but have been told that it is a must-see and I will also be binging it this summer. I don't know that much about it but the storyline mainly focuses on Joe and his obsession with love and one girl that gets more complicated and tests the ideas of what would you do for love? Joe becomes more desperate to be with the girl and uses social media and other tools that make him more obsessed and dangerous. This show is two seasons long currently and is another quick Netflix original you can gladly binge over the summer that will entertain you.

Unorthodox
Rotten Tomatoes: 95%

Unorthodox is another new limited series that Netflix has released and in my opinion it is stunning and a very crucial story for today. The story is about a young Jewish woman who leaves her arranged marriage and very strict religious area to start her brand new life in Berlin to achieve new goals and flee the very Orthodox community she lived in and disliked. This story is very interesting and is only 4 episodes, therefore a perfect show to quickly binge through and experience the tragedy yet fascination of this character. The acting and character development is phenomenal and the story just builds up on itself in some of the best writing I have seen in the year. Again, maybe not a show for the whole family but still a perfect show to binge this summer in about a day or two.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness
Rotten Tomatoes: 86%

I think almost everyone has at least heard of Tiger King at this point and although I think a lot of it is overhype, it's still a very eye-opening and interesting documentary to binge on Netflix. The show centers on Joe Exotic and his controversial/interactive/exotic zoo that sparks a rivalry between the person he hates most, Carole Baskin that rises in tensions and becomes more intense than it ever should have. I won't spoil too much about the plot, but it gets darker and even weirder as this story truly is bizarre and stunning to me that it is all true and none of it is made up as it is a documentary. The facts in here are crazy and the events that actually happened are honestly sometimes unbelievable which is exactly why you should watch it. While watching, it is definitely a bizarre journey that still keeps the audiences' attention and will show you about a business that many didn't know had so much drama or existed but it is also very well-made and fascinating due to how the creators crafted out their facts and ideas. If you want something different or a crazy experience or even want to learn about some of the strangest things ever, definitely watch this show over the summer.

Ozark
Rotten Tomatoes: 81%

Another show that hit its peak recently is definitely not a family binge show but still is an entertaining and spectacular drama series. The show is about the Byrde family and their forced transition to live in the Missouri Ozarks after the dad, Marty (played by Jason Bateman) accidentally gets involved with drug cartels and other dangerous people. The seasons also get better and better in my opinion so you might have to keep watching through some slower scenes, but really the show starts out intense and never really slows down in order to keep the audience entertained. You can probably tell by the story, but it's very dark and doesn't hold back on many disturbing things, but it still is supported by fantastic directing and writing as well as great acting for difficult roles that help build the complex storyline up as the series progresses and enhances the depth of each episode as well. There are three seasons and it is a great show to binge watch over this summer if you haven't already.

BoJack Horseman
Rotten Tomatoes: 93%

The only animated show on this list (I'm not a big fan of Big Mouth) is literally about a horse living like a human. I know that it might not sound like much, but this adult-comedy show is very entertaining and weirdly develops a lot of depth towards BoJack Horseman and his life as well as some interesting characterization that no one would expect from a show like this. Even if you are a little bit skeptical about this, just watch the first episode of it and I promise you that you might just be a little bit more entertained than you thought you would be.

One Day At A Time
Rotten Tomatoes: 99%

Although this show doesn't technically air new episodes on Netflix (it moved to Pop), the first three seasons that re-imagine the original comedy are really something special that places a modern twist on the classic story and mixes in the ideas of diversity and society into the storyline. The show revolves around a Cuban-American family and the single mother, Penelope (an army veteran with PTSD) raising her kids as well as dealing with her own mother who has some very strong views (beautifully acted as well). This feel-good comedy show also has some crucial lessons that are necessary at this time and is also a delight to binge watch especially if you are stressed or just want something to laugh about. Believe me that this is an excellent family-friendly show to binge watch this summer.

GLOW
Rotten Tomatoes: 92%

GLOW is about a fictional group of ladies that were in the very real Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) group in the 1980s and digs down deeper into the characters as well as their struggles and. the group's struggles. This show is comedic, but is not a feel-good comedy show necessarily but more impactful and serious than shows like that. But, the show is created very well and has a meaningful story that will most likely entertain you through each season. The episodes to this Emmy nominated show are short and the story continues to flow nicely from season to season, making this another great show to binge on Netflix.

Unbelievable
Rotten Tomatoes: 98%

This next show is really something spectacular and probably has the best acting and writing out of all the other shows on this list. This emotional, disturbing yet powerful story about an 18 year old girl who is attacked and raped in her apartment in a very disturbing way and two female detectives who are trying to find the truth and bring justice for the poor girl. This story really hit me hard and made me think greatly and will most likely shock anyone who watches it which makes it an important show to watch and understand more about these types of issues that face our lives especially since the show is based on a true story. It is very hard to watch and is chilling and depressing, but this show is made so well that it is a must-see and will be unlike anything else you have seen on Netflix and TV due to its clever plot and amazing acting. Do yourself a favor and face these great issues that our society faces by quickly binge watching this mind-boggling and eye-opening limited series.

Jessica Jones
Rotten Tomatoes: 83%

Jessica Jones is another Marvel Netflix show that was cancelled this past year due to the dwindling agreements, but while some of these shows aren't the best, I consider Daredevil and Jessica Jones to be amazing. I would have put Daredevil but only wanted to put one show and Jessica Jones is a little bit better to me. The story is about Jessica Jones who is a different kind of superhero than we have seen before as she is struggling greatly with her life and is a private investigator with a very troubled past not only with her parents, but with probably one of the worst villains in the MCU (yes, the show is in the MCU) who is Killgrave. Killgrave is traumatizing just watching him, however he helps makes this show more unique and have a fantastic, entertaining and action-packed storyline that the other Marvel Netflix shows sometimes lack. Season 1 is amazing and although the storyline does slightly dip in the next two seasons, you should definitely watch the first season and see if you like it because especially if you like Marvel, I strongly believe you will enjoy watching this action-packed series.

The Witcher
Rotten Tomatoes: 67%

The Witcher is a show you may have heard of in the fall, but has become less popular with the rise of some new shows. But, The Witcher is still a great action-packed adventure show that will definitely keep you entertained in the summer and captivated by the fictional world created and interesting characters in the show. Based on the book, The Witcher explores more about the fictional, medieval-inspired world and the legend of Geralt of Rivia and princess Ciri in a very unique type of storytelling that although greatly involves action also adds a great amount of plot to a complex story. This show may not be for everyone, but is a great and quick show to binge watch on Netflix this summer.

And that's it...

I'll try to add another post that has more shows on Netflix to binge in the future, but be on the lookout for some brand new posts that should be coming very soon!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!!
