All MCU Movies Ranked
*Percents are rotten tomato scores
*The top fourteen movies all have very small things that set them apart and really not many problems that separate them, therefore was a really tough decision
1. Avengers: Endgame-94%
I tried to not put Endgame as my number one and while many people disagree, this movie is far too epic to not put in my number one slot. I can understand the storyline issues and problems with the length and flow of the movie, but honestly it was a very well done conclusion to this saga and I disagree with the majority of the problems. It was a very tough call, but because of how amazingly crafted this movie was, I have to put it above Infinity War and the others as it concluded them in the most epic way possible. The character development, the action, the storyline is all as strong as it could be in this movie and improves on the problems the other Avenger movies had, therefore making it the best entry in the MCU saga for me, both as an obsessed fan and critically. In my opinion, this was the best movie in the MCU (but not by that much) as it was built off of almost every other movie and led to the biggest ending fight in any movie that will forever be a part of movies and their history. I saw this movie 5 times in theaters because I loved it so much and found it to be the most entertaining and fun movie Marvel has created. This may not be other people's #1 choice but for me I had to put it as my first as I was so entertained and absolutely loved this movie. (Plus that epic final battle scene is something no other movie can top right now).
2. Avengers: Infinity War-85%
Infinity War is still one of my favorite movies overall (as you can tell I love the ensemble marvel movies more) and it is another epic mashup of almost all the Marvel characters we have come to love. The fight scenes and effects in this movie are stunning and spectacular which really sets it apart from the other superhero movies and this being the first time in the MCU intensity was so high makes it a close-to-perfect entry. I love all the characters and how they introduced them into the movie and was so captivated and in love with the plot that I found it so entertaining and overall fun. This movie is unlike anything else as well and provided a strong blueprint for Endgame that makes it superior to the other Avengers movies. It was a very difficult choice over Infinity War or Endgame as I absolutely love each of them, but I think the lack of character development in Infinity War overshadowed the confusing plot in Endgame and forced me to put it as my number 2. With that in mind, Infinity War is still an amazing and mind-boggling movie that I will always remember as it created the events for Endgame (with a whole lot of incredible action) and dramatically changed how the MCU would run for Endgame and it still continues to be a memorable and excellent addition to not only the Marvel and Avengers saga but to movies in general.
3. Captain America: Civil War-91%
Civil War is mainly a partial Avengers movie and that's part of the reason I love it because it involves a great variety of characters and different plot lines for each of them that develop the characters (and I love the characters that were selected for this movie and their respective sides) and plot greatly. But the main reason I love this movie so much is the plot line and how delicately the tensions rise and unravel that leads to a civil war between two of the most loved superheroes in the MCU universe. The action continues Marvel's streak of epic action scenes (the airport battle) and makes what is the most professional story in the MCU overall into a stellar movie of conflict and teamwork. This holds a special spot in the saga and is unique in a great way as it reinforces the ideas of conflict, realism and division to the universe which is something I respected greatly. The ending is also very impactful with it really showing how no one wins a civil war and how everyone failed somehow when divided, therefore creating a strong message for society (especially today) in a strange turn for the MCU. I would love to put this movie a little bit higher, but due to my bias I have to put Infinity War and Endgame in my top as I love those movies a little bit more and find them more entertaining, but Civil War is still a fantastic movie done by the MCU that left me speechless as it will likely due to audiences.
4. Marvel's The Avengers-92%
Who can forget how the Avengers all started and their first journey as a team against the evil Loki. This movie is very underrated after Endgame and Infinity War and I'm sure I could make an argument for this being the best movie in the MCU as the action is nicely mixed with character development and a funny storyline that was the first time the stakes in the MCU had been raised that high. The only reason it is a little bit lower on this list is because the villain was Loki and although I love Loki's character in the original Thor and his incorporation as a hero in the other movies, I found his motivation and purpose in The Avengers to be weaker and not as interesting compared to Thanos in Infinity War or Endgame or even Ultron (but I think Loki was probably better than Ultron). The movie combines an epic plot with stunning character development (that is the best out of any Avengers movie) which was difficult to do especially with the variety of characters, making a well-crafted and wonderfully fast-paced entry into the MCU that never once loses the audience's attention. Also, this movie started off my favorite team of heroes and created something truly special that was not common in movies yet which was a giant team of superheroes working together and I do enjoy and respect this movie very much as it is expertly made and provided the strong basis for the future of the MCU.
5. Black Panther-97%
Black Panther is simply just a great MCU movie that increases the universe's connection to society and really breaks the boundaries for any previous MCU movie and although some people would disagree, I consider it the most professional and groundbreaking movie in the universe. The storyline is very emotional and connected to society in a good way that helps express our current world, breaking the walls of superhero movies in general. But mainly moving on from the society things, Black Panther is a very enjoyable superhero that is met with great supporting characters and a unique but impactful storyline in the MCU. The action in this movie is awesome and the world of Wakanda that was built is stellar in its visual aspects and is something that doesn't happen in movies that often, proving Black Panther to be unique. But also, the main villain of Killmonger is one of the best villains in the MCU and his beliefs are justified and really make the audience think, making the storyline more entertaining and simply better than some other movies. There isn't much that stands out to me that is wrong with the movie, but the storyline can drag out at times and as I said I enjoy ensemble movies more so that's the main reason I didn't put it above Avengers, Civil War, Infinity War or Endgame but it is still a wonderful and amazing movie that is very well made.
6. Thor: Ragnarok-93%
Thor: Ragnarok is essentially a comedy movie and I love it for that exact reason. Taking Thor in a different direction than the other two movies, Taika Waiti recreated the universe in an inventive and creative way that reforms the entire Thor saga and makes it so much more entertaining. There are very few moments in this movie where I wasn't launching and even though the humor is strongly present and overshadowing at times, the action-packed plot is mixed in very well in an interesting and captivating storyline. Hela is also one of my favorite villains in the comics and the character certainly did not disappoint (especially Cate Blanchett's acting), but I definitely think there could have been more development there, but the other characters such as Hulk, Thor and Loki are a great part of the storyline and add the flavor to the movie it needs (humor). The storyline is shaky but the planet Hulk comic book inclusion was very creative and to fit it in with Thor was very difficult yet well executed and awesome for this movie. The only reason it is below the others is because I feel like Black Panther has the strong society connection that I can't ignore which Ragnarok doesn't and again I love ensemble movies, but Thor: Ragnarok was a hilariously epic movie that I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would and improved the Thor saga in a way I didn't think was possible.
7. Captain America: The Winter Soldier-90%
The Winter Soldier for me is the first time in a Marvel movie where there was so much disaster in the MCU not counting the attacks in the Avengers. As S.H.I.E.L.D is corrupted by HYDRA, the entire balance of good and evil shifts as no one can trust anyone and as Captain America himself struggles with this idea of trust, the movie gains it's best qualities (matched with great and emotional acting from Chris Evans). This storyline really helps develop Captain America who up to this point for me was a very broad character that we didn't see much development for in the modern world as The First Avengers was in the past. Chris Evans does some of his best Captain America work in this movie and is joined by Falcon and Black Widow on an adventure to save the world from HYDRA's evil plots that are disguised as S.H.I.E.L.D. Then, you add in the winter soldier to this complicated mix (or BUCKY!!) and get to experience how difficult this storyline was to create and how wonderfully the writers managed to do so. The winter soldier was the perfect addition to this movie to really challenge Steve and his beliefs and raise the stakes for not only Captain America, but for Nick Fury and the true S.H.I.E.L.D members also. This movie is so greatly directed the the very mixed plot just fits and the character development they managed to do is insane and one of the best of any Marvel movie, despite the slow tendency of the movie. This movie is fantastic and I would love to put it higher but the storyline drags at times and lacks the abundance of humor or action that some of the higher movies had, but this movie is unique, great and continues the Captain America legacy successfully.
8. Guardians of the Galaxy-91%
The movie that everyone was confused about and expecting to be quite awful. It was poised just from the storyline to fail and flop in the theaters, but somehow through director James Gunn' adapting this comic in the best way possible, he made this strange story into one of the best and most successful in the MCU. This movie about a bunch of criminals in the galaxy from places we had never heard of becoming superheroes is one of the best and most funny origin stories Marvel has made. The characters of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot all have so much chemistry together and add humor to the movie with all their strange comments and interesting tactics of fighting. The storyline is so delicately crafted to help develop each character and share their own stories as well as conveying their growth throughout the movie which is an extremely difficult thing to do if the audience has never heard of any of the original characters. Imagine if the Avengers was released with no origin movies for the team and you just met them for the first time. That's what Guardians did unexpectedly fantastic and helped put it at the top of the list. The only reason this movie is lower on the top 10 is because I really didn't feel like the movie had a strong villain. Ronan was ok but we never got to learn about him and his motives or why he is doing all this because there must have been a deeper meaning to it that would support his depth. Also, the one character that I thought was unnecessary in this movie, but was more of an introduction without any real connection to the storyline was Nebula as she could have been used better in this movie and could have had an increased role in the storyline like she did in Guardians 2. The humor is great, the storyline is wonderful, the characters are adapted perfect from the comics to the movies by Gunn, making another great superior addition to the MCU.
9. Iron Man-94%
Who can forget where the MCU all started. Robert Downey Jr.'s original Iron Man is still one of the best movies in the MCU as even though the stakes are very low and more simple, this movie is such a great origin story that it is hard to forget and it greatly introduced the humor/action/story formula for the future MCU movies. The storyline also connects to society about war which was the icing on the cake for this movie as it really stays in your head as you are introduced to one of the best superheroes there have been, mister Iron Man himself. The character development is amazing and one of the best in this movie as it serves as a true origin story for Iron Man that uniquely allows for growth for Tony Stark all mixed with new supporting characters (Pepper Potts, Nick Fury, Phil Coulson) and a meaningful and stellar plot that was the perfect introduction to the MCU. This movie is also really funny which is something that was lacking from previous superhero movies and a great thing Marvel was able to revive and continue throughout their franchise. But, as this being the first movie in the MCU, it was poised to have some problems as they were still finding their voice with these movies. The only main thing is again a lack of a strong villain because the main antagonist (Iron Monger) is interesting, but really lacks the depth like other Marvel movies and this is very apparent because of how much information we have been given about Iron Man. The storyline is also very limited compared to other MCU movies and doesn't extend out of its comfort zone like other movies did because it was the very first in the series, therefore they couldn't do a risky move right from the start. But, this movie is the perfect introduction to the MCU and something that any fan of Iron Man or Marvel will greatly love from start to finish.
10. Spider-Man: Far From Home-91%
A lot of people are going to disagree with me on this one, but because both of the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies are so great, it was really hard to put one over the other. However, I decided to put the most recent one over Homecoming and this was like only 1% better to me as it continued on everything Homecoming did and extended the movie to new boundaries that raise the stakes and make the storyline more captivating. This movie is definitely a comedy (sometimes relies too heavy on that) and was the perfect thing to release after Endgame as it is so hilarious and the beautiful writing and acting made this movie something special and created a more meaningful storyline than Homecoming as Mysterio is a great villain, but has a strong motive that can almost be connectable like Thanos which just slightly edges out Michael Keaton's Vulture. In the movie, I did find myself wanting more seriousness sometimes but this was overshadowed greatly by the dazzling visual effects (due to Mysterio) that help this movie edge out Homecoming by the slightest bit as the fight scenes become more intense and rise in their development in similar fashion to how high the stakes are rising throughout the entirety of the movie which is something that was a risky yet powerful move for the movie. This film is another great entry to the Spider-Man movie and Tom Holland is fantastic again with exceptional visuals and a great and funny storyline that help put this movie into the top 10 by the smallest bit.
11. Spider-Man: Homecoming-92%
I love this next movie also and it was really hard to not put in the top 10 because it is so hilarious and cleverly created compared to the other Spider-Man movies that really makes it stand out from other MCU movies. The whole Uncle Ben's death storyline is cut out which is a great decision as most people know all the exposition, therefore just skipping it and creating an entirely new storyline that has really never been done makes this movie one of the best of the Spider-Man movies ever made. The villain of the Vulture is relatable and fantastic, the acting from Tom Holland is unique and in my opinion the best Spider-Man as he really embodies the high school awkwardness that has been missing from other Spider-Man actors and its connection to the MCU and Tony Stark gives its storyline a major advantage. The only reason it is not in the top 10 is because the stakes aren't raised high enough, lacking action and the plot just doesn't seem serious enough at times compared to Far From Home, but this makes it a good relaxing movie for the MCU that it needed before Infinity War. This movie also is one of the few MCU pure-comedy movies, therefore another great addition in the MCU and the Spider-Man universe.
12. Ant-Man and the Wasp-88%
Another MCU comedy movie that also just borders the top 10 and this one is a very fun adventure movie that stands out in the Marvel universe. The first Ant-Man was good in my opinion but compared to Ant-Man and the Wasp, it really lacked in a variety of aspects. Ant-Man and the Wasp blends the same humor from Ant-Man (even adds more) and creates an original storyline with a very well-written villain and side-characters that help separate the unique story from other MCU movies as even though the stakes might not be high in the beginning, the movie develops and increases them to include something much bigger and even more important. The exploration of topics in the MCU such as the Quantum Realm all increases the credibility and the reason it came out when it did and helps the storyline become more mature and different which the origin story for Ant-Man lacked. Again, my only problem is the characters don't seem to change much throughout the story and especially in a movie that was so crucial to the development of the MCU, I don't think there was much development compared to the other Marvel movies or even the origin story of Ant-Man, but it still is a stellar and improved upgrade to the original Ant-Man.
13. Doctor Strange-89%
Probably the strangest entry into the MCU is another visually stunning and unique movie that has a special place inside the universe. This movie was always going to be really hard to sell and create as it was tasked with explaining the complex ideas of Doctor Strange and introduce the multiple dimensions all in one movie. I was very surprised though as this movie is so wonderfully made that it fits perfectly in the MCU and makes a fantastic movie. The characters which are so difficult to write were somehow created in a great and easy way to understand as well as connect and the visual effects are definitely some of the best out of any Marvel movie. The reason it is lower on the list is because it is unable to match the level of humor that appears in other Marvel movies which I really enjoy especially in origin stories and the storyline feels a bit slow and although it does its best to avoid confusing the audience, it ends up doing just that for some of the movie. Nevertheless, this movie is amazing and follows its own unique style that although can go against it at times is a fun and entertaining experience for any Marvel fan that breaks the walls for how Marvel movies should run.
14. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2-85%
The follow-up to the first movie that was a surprise hit, Guardians 2 matches the humor and character development that the first one has and even fixes one of my main complaints of not using Nebula enough as she becomes a major character. Plus, who doesn't love Mantis joining the Guardians! With a strong start and end to the movie, it continues the action-packed, visually stunning and funny adventure that the first one started, but although it tries to be as fun as the original one, it just can't live up to it as much as it tries. The plot is great for the majority of the movie, but the middle section does get a bit slow and sometimes boring especially for an audience and with so many differing storylines simultaneously happening, the mash-up at the ending is done great, but the build up to each of the individual storylines is weak and lacks depth. But, with all the new characters and stories, it does feel fresh and separates itself from the original movie greatly and even builds on the emotional level with the introduction of Star-Lord's dad (despite his role as the villain being quite limited and confusing). This movie might not be as groundbreaking as the first one, but continues a creative adventure in the best way possible given its' unique storyline and makes it a fresh and fun entry into the MCU, plus Baby Groot is the best!
15. Avengers: Age of Ultron-75%
This movie had so much hype to it that it really self-destructed on itself and was unable to match up with the impossibly high expectations that were placed on this action-packed sequel. The introduction of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver was one of my favorite things the MCU decided to do, and although I don't dislike this movie as much as others do, I do agree it had its' strong faults that sometimes overshadowed the strengths. The plot is very weak for the majority of the movie and doesn't live up to the original movie and the villain of Ultron is not explained enough and although he had a lot of potential, the way the movie was crafted was unable to live up to that. However, being an ensemble movie, I did love it and although I thought it was weak for an MCU movie, I thought it was still a fantastic and fun movie in general. The characters continue to be likable and entertaining and the action increases greatly making some of the best fight scenes of the MCU along with the rising stakes from Ultron. This movie has a lot of faults that do stand out as it can't really support the new abundance of characters like the original one did, but it continues the amazing adventures of the Avengers and reimagines a very well-known storyline in the comics in a shaky, destructive yet entertaining and bold way.
16. Ant-Man-83%
This origin story for Ant-Man was everything I hoped it would be as it blended in all the humor from the Ant-Man stories, found an incredible actor (Paul Rudd) that can create that relaxed yet intense tone and a captivating storyline that could introduce things to the MCU that were not discovered yet such as the Quantum Realm. It was an action-packed, hilarious, and entertaining origin story for Ant-Man that is something different from other stories in Marvel told in a creative and completely enjoyable way. However, I do think the standout problems with this movie is the overly small scale of the movie (ironically) that doesn't seem to extend past its comfort zone including the weakly written and developed villain of Yellowjacket, but only go the safe path that sometimes creates a rough path for the storyline and characters. But, the addition of Michael Douglas' Hank Pym and Evangeline Lily's The Wasp was wonderfully done! The pacing is sometimes shaky and lacks the stability in other Marvel movies, but it still is a great, smaller and relaxing movie inside the universe, framing a great origin story.
17. Captain America: The First Avenger-80%
Another Marvel origin story that comes from the beginning of the MCU introduces one of the most famous heroes in the Marvel universe. While watching the first Captain America, I felt kind of underwhelmed compared to the other Captain America movies as I felt like the character development was really weak for a origin story and the supporting characters never got their time to shine that wasted some of their potential especially involving Red Skull. However, the storyline is very fit and sets up the universe in a solid yet very serious way. The action and classic superhero feeling movie still makes me love this film as it combines the nostalgia feeling with a new modern type of superhero storytelling that Marvel introduced. Overall, this movie has it's faults and is overshadowed by the other Captain America movies, but is a solid introduction to the Captain America character and a different time period in the MCU.
18. Iron Man 3-79%
The third Iron Man made a decent improvement to the second Iron Man but never quite lives up to the greatness and uniqueness of the original Iron Man movie. Despite some great character development and intense sequences in the movie, the villain's lack of depth and presence bothers me and sets this movie down as the plot describes the Mandarin to be this horrible, villainous monster that anyone who has seen this movie knows isn't true. Sure, there is another villain (will avoid for spoilers), but he isn't in the movie enough and is not built up to hold the mantle of the main antagonist which really weakens the storyline and overall development of the film. That being said, I do love the new side of Tony Stark we are introduced to in the movie that will change how anyone views Iron Man in a mostly good way as it changes the original Iron Man we know and love but also improves his personality in a way. Iron Man 3 tries it's best to live up to the original Iron Man but really struggles in its villain and can't recreate the magic that the original one made, but it does its best effort to do so.
19. Captain Marvel-78%
Captain Marvel is a movie I really wanted to like (especially since she's the most powerful superhero in the MCU) especially since it was so overhyped, but I really felt the movie couldn't find its beat and I struggled to put this movie higher despite how much I wanted to. This movie does have a fantastic storyline that is built up so perfectly it had so much potential to be one of the best especially with the first involvement of the kree and skrulls, however the movie does get slow and drags on which really decreases the entertaining aspect of the movie which in my opinion is the most crucial thing for any Marvel movie. Captain Marvel is so powerful that the movie doesn't know what to do with it and contains the power until the end of the movie (which still under-shows it) which is an ok decision, but hides the character and doesn't really show any development despite the high potential for the character. But, this movie is still fun and introduces a new universe as well as a super powerful hero that any kid can look up to that makes for an ultimately flawed but fun adventure.
20. Thor-77%
Thor is a decent origin story to another very powerful superhero that similar to Captain Marvel is confused and unable to handle the level of power Thor has and how to transfer it to the big screen. The movie is overall forgettable and not bad as it still is a great superhero movie that is better than most others, but compared to other MCU entries, it falls to the weaker side. The plot is decent and allows for a lot of character development especially in Thor as we see a complete change in the movie from a man-child to a mature and worthy God that not only shifts the character but rapidly (almost too rapidly) changes the tone. The side characters also are forgettable and don't stand out especially with Odin who had so much potential but was just gone for the majority of the film which really disappointed me as him and all of these other characters could have created a spectacular new world in the MCU (like Black Panther did), but, due to the lack of it, was unable to do so. This is true for all except Loki as he is a mostly decent villain that feels flat sometimes and doesn't have a strong motive, but he ultimately saves the movie at times in a kind of explosive performance that greatly stands out in the film. Thor really is a decent superhero movie and creates a fantastic "worthy" character, but with all the flat and forgettable tendencies, the movie never finds its beat and struggles to showcase this amazing superhero at its full potential.
21. Iron Man 2-73%
Iron Man 2 is another one of those movies that had too high of expectations set on it which mainly led to its weaknesses and struggles. The sequel lacks the spark of the original Iron Man and never is as entertaining as its predecessor and also lacks the strong development the third one had, therefore making it the weakest Iron Man movie in the trio. War Machine is re-cast and given a substantial role in this movie as well as Black Widow which I don't have a problem with, but actually love and is my favorite thing about the movie as it finally begins to take risks and expand it's character roster to add diversity and more variety which is something I believed the first movie lacked especially with the character of War Machine. But, Iron Man 2 struggles from weak villains that never match together properly, struggle to create a captivating and flowing storyline and a tone that might be too fresh for Iron Man fans and reimagines the universe in not the best way. That said, the solid performances and continued rise of action in the movie still makes it a great superhero movie that just couldn't live up to the success of the first one and continue the humor/entertaining mash the original one somehow mastered, but still makes it a solid entry to the Iron Man franchise and character.
22. Thor: The Dark World-66%
This movie is probably the most confusing yet intriguing Marvel movie that actually had a lot of potential, but just failed on its delivery. The first Thor movie was forgettable which is something that is continued by this one, but this sequel followed the general trend of sequels and got worse especially when it comes to character development. Thor doesn't change in this movie and that development that I admired in the first movie disappeared and the same is true for Jane Foster as she doesn't change as much as was necessary. Loki is probably the character that is most interesting and changes for the better which I admire, but the weak villain of Malekith and the dark elves really adds to this movies' struggles and its inability to establish a strong and involved plot. I do not hate this movie and actually find it interesting and a crucial point in the MCU, but just was disappointed with the amount of potential Malekith and the dark elves had and how the movie decided to handle them. The storyline is very confusing and only comic fans will truly understand it despite the complexity and depth of it, and the characters/stories never fit in the movie as they should. Overall, The Dark World is definitely improperly ignored as it tells a fascinating and crucial story, but delivers on them in a disappointing, quite boring and vulnerable way that makes it the worst of the Thor trio even with its high potential and capability it had with its context and idea.
23. The Incredible Hulk-67%
This movie is so forgettable that some people forget it was even in the MCU as it is so different from the other Marvel movies and never establishes itself as unique or strong. I consider this movie a really far decrease from even The Dark World as the storyline is so weak that I found myself falling asleep in the middle (which I never do) and thought had no depth to it. When I was talking about The Dark World, I mentioned it was fascinating and had potential, but with the Hulk, I never thought of the story as entertaining and didn't find it intriguing as it really failed to deliver on the solid Hulk story everyone was craving. However, the movie does have potential and could have been something great and memorable, but with average acting and weak writing, it never delivers close to the movie I hoped it would be and it really fails to match with any of the other MCU movies that sets it apart from the universe in a negative way as it didn't follow the established and successful MCU style. To make it worse, the villain is weak and underwhelming and this movie serves no purpose in the MCU (compared to Dark World which is crucial to the Thor story) and really is the movie everyone skips in their marathons due to that fact. Therefore, The Incredible Hulk is a disappointing Marvel movie that seems very weak and lazy most of the time and fails to tell a captivating origin story that the character of the Hulk deserved. But, the effects are still cool like all other Marvel movies!
